Hi – my name is Mia Asker and I am an interior design specialist. My design philosophy is based on personality playing a lead role in determining your interior environment and as such I don't believe there are any absolutes – no real rights or wrongs. Your interior environment should provide you with soul food and this will only happen if you let yourself be a part of the process.

While there are no absolutes in my eyes, there are some interior design rules and recommendations which will help you achieve your ideal home environment. These are tools (not clichés) and there will always be a reason behind these which will be based on clever thinking and solution-based outcomes. When these tools are blended with personality and treasured possessions, thus relating your surroundings to your family and friends, you will be well on the way to creating an environment with integrity and style (your style).

With more than 15 years experience I feel well qualified to impart this information and advise clients. As an integral part of IKEA's design team, I travelled the world for many years setting up IKEA stores internationally across Asia, Europe and Australia and am now mainly designing large events and advertising productions for them. I also do work for various magazines, having in the past been the style director for Home Beautiful and Notebook: Magazine, with current work involving freelance styling for titles such as Gourmet Traveller. I also maintain a truly satisfied set of private clients.

My aim is to develop an ever-evolving website which will provide online interior design advice minus the intimidation, the hefty price tag and the high-end hype that is so often associated with this profession. I want this site to provide a stepping stone for those of you with interior design and decorating projects in the pipeline, no matter where in Australia you are.
