Home Office

In these modern times the need for a dedicated home office space has never been more in demand. So many people work from home in so many different ways that it is paramount to sort out a feasible working space to meet individual needs.

Bear in mind that an office can be fitted into many different areas of the house – you don't have to have a dedicated room; it could be a space under the stairs that can be utilised, a cupboard in the kitchen that can close off after use, a corner of a teenager's bedroom and so on.

Of course where your office will work depends to some degree on how you need to use it. If you are receiving clients then you will need to create a space that has some sort of physical barrier between your home and office space, (so the kids don't spill orange juice over your visiting clients proposal)! If your office is predominantly used for household admin then a cupboard in the kitchen that opens up housing an office would be perfect. If it is your teenagers requiring a study area then this needs to be tailored very specifically to their needs, you should collaborate with them, ensuring that they are able to be free from distractions there. They need to feel ownership over that space and it needs to be an inspirational environment for them.

There are many shops now that deal with storage solutions and home office furniture, with really great space-saving options that won't cost the earth. Plan your space thoughtfully (take a catalogue home from one of these shops to help give you ideas), include task lighting and always bear in mind what type of work needs to be achieved there. Ensure that everything has its place and in particular that everyday items of use are at your fingertips.
